Art and Creativity
This is such a beautiful and unique park! The interactive/play areas are untraditional in the sense that there isn’t a big play structure or anything. This interactive music area is so fun, and kids can’t make anything but beautiful music here!
My daughter (age 5) said “this park is beautiful, but it isn’t cool”… perhaps I should have better prepped her for a park with no playground (especially since we’ve visited a few *very cool* playgrounds)! She did appreciate so much this park had to offer though!
Climbing Rock, Swings and Other Fun Things
This climbing rock and the swings are the only play “equipment” here, but don’t let that deter you from visiting this gem! There’s lots to explore here…

This lovely bridge leads to the climbing rock… little details like this make the park feel magical. The climbing rock is not small (it’s probably 8 feet? I need to start bringing a tape measure to parks!) and would be super fun for any kid who loves to climb!

The swing set included two baby (bucket) swings and two saddle swings – but one of each was currently removed for social distancing. The play area was designed for children 2-12 years of age.

Play Sculptures
These guys were pretty fun! Two reptilian play sculptures: one frog and one lizard!

There is a sand box too, but I didn’t get a picture of it! #bloggerfail

One (of many!) beautiful features at Briercrest Park is this tile and stone mosaic labyrinth.
Restrooms
The restroom building is near the climbing rock. It has a men’s side and a women’s side, with drinking fountains between. Both restrooms are accessible. There is a large, flat surface in the woman’s restroom to change a diaper if necessary, but you’ll probably want to put down a changing pad. Even the restrooms have incorporated art!

Picnic Areas
This would be such a lovely spot for a picnic, either at one of the picnic tables or on a blanket in the grass.
You are able to reserve space at this park through the La Mesa Parks webpage: https://www.cityoflamesa.us/389/Briercrest-Park
A park permit is required to consume alcohol at Briercrest Park (more information at the link above).
The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library is located next to Briercrest Park. According to their webpage, “the library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District to help meet the health information needs of local residents. It is a free public library specializing in health-related materials.”
