Cypress Canyon Park

Cypress Canyon Park is a nice neighborhood park that is great for baseball or basketball (or just throwing ball) in Scripps Ranch.  It’s about 9.5 acres and well-maintained. We saw lots of people walking their dogs on the path that goes around the park, and two of the four diamonds had ball games that day (a late Saturday morning). Nobody was using the basketball courts or batting cages when we were there.

There are several signs warning of rattlesnakes in this area. During the summer (which, in San Diego, can start as early as March/April), rattlesnakes are active at night and they will seek out shady places during the day.

Children should be warned not to go near any snake.

Picnic tables, barbecues, restrooms, parking lot, walking path, lots of parking in the lot or on the street.

Tot Lot, baby swings (no regular swings), sand, monkey bars,

There are four baseball diamonds with dugouts, one full court basketball court, one half court basketball court, batting cages and a bullpen. There are also large grassy areas and two sets of stairs if you like to work those into a park workout.

Playgrounds

There are two playgrounds that both seem good for younger kids. The tot lot has a small structure with a single, small slide, stairs and a climbing ramp. There is also a pair of baby swings.

The bigger play structure has a tunnel slide, a small slide and a few climbing bars. There are no regular swings (just baby swings). Additionally, there’s a third sand lot with a bright blue dinosaur to climb on. I don’t know that bigger kids (10+ year old) would enjoy the playgrounds here, since they seem more geared toward younger children. They might enjoy the big grassy areas though!

Between the two playground spaces, there are also lots of big boulders. My daughter loves to climb and jump on these.

On the perimeter of the playground spaces, there are some beautiful flowering bushes, but I saw several bees around them on the day I was there.

Great for a Picnic Lunch

There is a nice picnic area shaded by trees near the playgrounds, with three picnic tables with benches and three barbecues. There’s a big grassy area right near this area too which would be a fun spot for some lawn games (although, it is sloped). These tables are not available to reserve.

Sunny Picnic Area

There is another picnic area beyond the ball fields, in the back of the park. Here you will find several tables here (4 large rectangles and 3 smaller rounds tables), but none of them have covering.

Basketball and Pickleball

Near the parking lot, there is a full court basketball court and a half court basketball court. A sign on the full court says “Basketball courts are reserved for picklball Wednesday 4pm-7pm”. There are additional signs that outline what you’d expect: no glass containers, no smoking, no littering, no disturbing noise. Another sign says “Games of sport prohibited after 10pm”. The courts appear to be in good condition (there were some pieces of turf in the half court) and there are lights, but I don’t know if they’re on at dark.

Baseball in Scripps Ranch

There are four baseball fields with dugouts. I love the reminder to the parents: PLEASE REMEMBER these are our kids, this is a game, the coaches volunteer, the umpires are human, no college scholarships will be awarded today” 🙂

Batting Cages and Bullpens

There are three batting cages near the entrance to the park (they’re pretty far away from the fields, actually) with a sign that reads “Batting cage priority use for team batting practice”. There is also a bullpen down the hill from the playground, near the field with a sign on there that says “Please respect the bullpen area, refrain from wearing metal spikes”.

Stop and Smell the Roses

There are several beautiful rose bushes lining the sidewalk near the entrance. I hope that people continue to respect the fact that, if these lovely flowers are cut then they cannot be enjoyed by others who visit the park.

Natural Elements

I think this park does a beautiful job of incorporating natural elements. There are lovely flowering plants, drought-resistant landscaping, shade trees and grassy areas. It’s all very well maintained.

Fitness

This would be a nice spot to get in a park workout! There is no fitness equipment, per se, but there’s a nice path for a walk or jog. Also, running up and down the stairs is a good workout too. There are two sets of stairs near the parking lot.

Warnings

I saw no less than three signs warning of rattlesnakes, but it doesn’t hurt to mention it again. Stick to the sidewalks and grassy areas, and inspect play spaces before letting your children play. Children should be warned not to go near any snake.

Also, there were some bees in the bushes near the playground when I was there, but they were far enough from the play equipment.

Bathrooms

There is one restroom building with men’s/women’s restrooms. The women’s restroom had had two stalls (one of them was accessible), two sinks with soap (one was broken), and one hand dryer. There was not a changing table.
