My daughter and I visited this park for a birthday party in late June, and then we came back to this park to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July! It’s a beautiful park, with many picnic areas, playgrounds, a bathroom building and (of course) a stunning view of the lake and San Diego. You can also enjoy a big grassy area in the middle (lots of space!), fitness equipment, a little walking path around the park.
This was a nice park to watch the fireworks show from Mira Mesa, but I wouldn’t consider it a destination park for fireworks. The show isn’t particularly close, so it’s good for small children who might get scared. Otherwise, it’s one of many good spots for Scripps Ranchers to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July!

Playground
My daughter (age 3) and her friends loved the playground! The two structures (one for younger children and one for older children) are in a sand lot. It’s surrounded by shaded benches and near the bathrooms and gazebos.

Interestingly, the swing set (with two baby swings and two regular swings) is a good distance away from the playground. It’s in a big, separate sand lot. Bonus: One of the baby swings has rubber ground for parents to stand so you don’t get sand in your shoes!

Gazebo and Picnic Areas
Lake View Park has a big gazebo with two small square tables (they’re game tables!), two covered picnic tables (a single picnic table with a shelter) and five additional picnic areas with three rectangular tables each.
Even though none of these spaces are available to be reserved, I’d still consider this a great place to have an event because there is plenty of space, there is a parking lot and a restroom (although, it would be a long hike from a couple of the picnic areas to the restroom).

These are the covered tables – which would be great for a single family to have a picnic lunch or dinner!

These are the clusters of rectangular tables. There are five picnic areas with three tables each. You can see where they are in relation to the rest of the park in the aerial map I created at the end of the post.

The picnic area furthest from the playground and bathroom makes up for it by having the best view!

Large Grassy Area
I love a park with a big grassy area! This one is beautiful, with some shaded spots and some sunny areas. It’s a great place to kick or throw a ball around (or play “Red Light Green Light!” with littles).

Fitness Equipment Stations
If you’re looking to get in a work out, this is a great park for that too! To start/end at the gazebo (on the parking lot side) is about .25 miles and there are four fitness equipment stations along the way (detailed in the aerial map at the end of this post).

Natural Beauty
Lake View Park is beautifully landscaped and I love that consideration was made for people who might want to sit at a bench and take in the view – I mean, check out how lovely this is!

Kids on Bikes and Scooters
The wide sidewalk that loops around the park makes it a great place for young children to ride their bikes or scooters. For locals who ride bikes to the park, there is bike parking near the front of the park.

Bathrooms
The park has one gender-neutral bathroom building with a toilet, urinal, sink and drinking foundation (on the outside of the building). There is no changing table.

Dogs
Leashed dogs are allowed at Lake View Park, and it would make for a pleasant walk for your pup! The drinking fountain near the playground does not have a spigot for dogs, but there is a water bowl there (chained, so it doesn’t walk away).

Parking
The parking lot has 18 spaces plus two ADA spaces, and there is some parking on the residential streets just outside the park gates. The parking lot closes at dark.

Warnings and Notices
Organized sports are prohibited, and so are glass containers.
Be aware that there may be rattlesnakes in this area – children should stick to the paths and be warned to never go near a snake (get an adult!).

Lake View Park in Scripps Ranch
Here is the aerial map I put together for Lake View Park to help give you a better idea of where the picnic areas and fitness equipment are located.
