My daughter and I have visited this park many times! Miramar Overlook Park is a cute little park in Scripps Ranch, about 1.5 miles off the 15 freeway. It has a separate tot lot with a pair of baby swings and a seesaw. The playground for older children has a play structure with a couple of slides, a spinner, and some monkey bars. There is also a pair of regular swings.
It’s a cute park for a small event, with a reserve-able gazebo (with four round tables) and a hot coal bin for barbecues. There’s a second gazebo with two round tables, but this one is is NOT available to be reserved. There’s a third structure on the other side of the play area with a single picnic table (not available to reserve).
Picnic tables, hot coal bin, restrooms, gender-neutral bathrooms, parking lot (18 spaces, 2 disabled spaces),
Tot Lot, baby swings, seesaw, sand, slides, regular swings, monkey bars, spinners
There’s a grassy area, but it’s not big enough to be a soccer field. Also, it’s right near the busy road. It’s a good park for small bike/scooter riders (or learning to ride) because there’s a flat, circular path (the path is away from the road).
The view!

About the Park
There are two playgrounds: one for ages 2-5 and one for ages 5-12. The tot lot has a seesaw and two baby swings (and space to play in the sand with a bucket and shovel). The larger playground has two slides (a bumpy one and a twisty one), some monkey bars, two ladders and a spinner. There is also a pair of regular swings and lots of space in the sand.
There is a good-sized grassy area, but it’s right near the road so pick your activity there wisely 🙂 And there’s a big sidewalk area for chalk art. There’s a sidewalk that goes around the large playground, which is perfect for young bicycle or scooter riders. There’s also a fun little hill down into the park for brave riders who love a little thrill.
View of Miramar Lake
This park has a lovely view (hence the name, Miramar Overlook Park) of Miramar Reservoir below (also known as Miramar Lake). There are a couple of benches set up to enjoy this view. The parking lot gate is locked at sunset (the security guard notifies park visitors before locking the gate).
Bring your pup!
Dogs are allowed here, but must be leashed at all times. Given the proximity of the park to the busy Scripps Ranch Blvd (there’s no fence), I would keep a pup on a leash. The drinking fountain has spigot for Fido if he gets thirsty.
Events
The larger gazebo can be reserved for events, but not the adjacent one (with two tables). It’s a quiet park though, so if you reserve the large gazebo and are there to set up on the smaller tables (before anybody else does), you’re good. The rate to reserve (as of March 2019) is $30/hour with a three hour minimum plus processing fees ($2 for cash or check, 3% for a credit card). You can have a bounce house at this location. The fee for that is $22 (flat, not hourly). The number to call to reserve is 858-538-8085.
The parking lot is pretty small, with only 18 spots and two disabled parking spots – so this wouldn’t be a great park for a large event.
