Winterwood Lane/Christa McAuliffe Park is a nice park with a couple of play structures and a sand play area. It does not have restrooms. According to the Mira Mesa Recreational Council Webpage, “this park was originally planned to be a large community park named in honor of an astronaut who died in the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. Unfortunately, much of the land in Christa’s park was taken over by Fairy Shrimp, a protected species.”
This park is just one of many parks in San Diego named after women. You can read more about Christa McAuliffe and all the other women in my blog post here!

Playground at Christa McAuliffe Park
The playground at Christa McAuliffe Park is fun! It features monkey bars, a large slide, swings, a tot lot and a digger. It has a corkscrew climber/swirly pole, which I featured in this viral video.

The tot lot is perfect for littles. It has a could small slides, a little playhouse, and some interactive elements.

You can find two saddle swings and two baby (bucket) swings at Christa McAuliffe Park. There is also a small sand lot with a digger and funnel (pictured below)!

There are no restrooms at Christa McAuliffe park.

Christa McAuliffe
Christa McAuliffe Park in Mira Mesa is named after the American teacher and astronaut from Concord, New Hampshire, who was killed on the Space Shuttle Challenger on mission STS-51-L where she was serving as a payload specialist. She was an inspiration. You can read more about her here.
