Dog Parks for Small Dogs in San Diego

three small dogs on grass with the words "dog parks with small dog areas in San Diego"

This blog post is in honor of Rocky Harris (one of the Bostons pictured) because his human was having trouble finding dog parks with separate areas just for small pups!

There are approximately 40 dog parks in San Diego, but not all have separate areas just for small dogs. If you want a dog park with an area just for your little pup, it can be hard to find (I found 22)! You can search our database for parks with an separate area for small dogs here, or scroll down to learn how to learn more.

Civita Park

Civita Park in Mission Valley has pretty much everything – including great fenced dog parks! You’ll find an area just for small dogs, and another area for large dogs (complete with agility training equipment).

Pacific Highlands Park Community Park Dog Park

Pacific Highlands Ranch

Pacific Highlands Ranch is off the 56 in Carmel Valley. It has five acres of turf field, playground and “discovery play” area, skate plaza, parkour area and bike pump track. There are also baseball fields, a nice loop for walking/jogging and fitness stations, picnic areas and basketball courts. There is a large dog park area and a small dog park area.

Mast Park

Mast Park in Santee is one of the only parks I found with THREE separate areas for dogs: large dogs, small dogs and PUPPIES!

General Information About Dog Parks in San Diego

Not all of the dog parks with separate areas for small dogs listed in my database are necessarily City of San Diego Parks, but here is some helpful information from their webpage

  • All people bringing their dogs to leash free areas enter at their own risk and accept full responsibility and liability for their dog’s actions.
  • All other park areas with the exception of the Beaches and Mission Bay allow dogs at any time, but they must be on a leash.
  • Owners are always required to clean up after their dogs.

Off-Leash Hours & Dog Beaches

In addition to the dog parks with small dog areas in our database, there are lots of places in San Diego to take your pup! Some parks have areas (typically not fenced) with designated times for off-leash activity. And don’t forget dog beaches! San Diego Magazine has compiled a nice guide for places to take your dog in San Diego.

Search for Dog Parks with Separate Areas for Small Dogs

If you’re looking for dog parks in San Diego with separate areas for small dogs, you’ve come to the right place! You can search our database and add criteria to find a park with restrooms, playgrounds or parking lots.

Example:

There are 22 parks in San Diego with separate areas for small dogs, but four of them are in N. County coastal. I found this by searching for the separate small dog park tag, and then selecting “North Coastal” under “Location”. You can refine the location even more by selecting another amenity (restrooms (for humans!) for example).
