Playground

This fun playground is a climber’s dream! There are climbing walls, nets, and lots more to climb! The play structure also has monkey bars, a slide and a scavenger hunt for older kids to enjoy.

Tot Lot

The tot lot is fun for younger children. It has two baby swings, play house, and sensory play areas.

Picnic Areas

If you’d like to have a snack or meal, there are two picnic areas with two rectangular tables each. The two picnic areas are on opposite sides of the park. Or, you can spread out a blanket on the large grassy area!

According to the Encinitas Parks webpage, beer and wine are allowed at the park (but no glass).

Basketball Court

Mildred MacPherson Park also has a half court basketball court. It is not lighted and cannot be reserved, but it’s a good spot for a quick game.

Accessibility

A sign posted at each entrance says the park is accessible, but the two entrances that do not have stairs are on pretty sloped streets. You can see the streets (I and J) on street view of Google Maps below.

Rules

Mildred MacPherson Park has a few rules, including:

  • dogs must be on a leash
  • no glass
  • no running, pushing or shoving

Mildred MacPherson

According to the San Diego Botanic Gardens webpage, the park was named for Mildred MacPherson, who donated her land on Vulcan Avenue between I and J Streets to the residents of Encinitas. The acreage was named the Mildred Macpherson Community Park in honor of her lifetime of dedication, generosity and perseverance.
