There are approximately 70 parks in San Diego with tennis courts, but they can be hard to find! You can search our database for parks in your area with tennis courts by clicking here, or scroll down to learn how to search.
Here are just a few I have visited (I hope to visit more soon!):
Kit Carson Park
Kit Carson Park has a tennis complex with ten (10) lighted tennis courts.
Pioneer Park
Pioneer Park (also called Mission Hills) has two (2) tennis courts across the street from the park/restrooms.
Martin Luther King Jr. Park
Martin Luther King Jr. Park has seven (7) tennis courts. There is a parking lot and lots of street parking, and there are restrooms.
Rules for Tennis Courts in San Diego
Some tennis courts at parks in San Diego have rules about when and how they can be used. For the City of San Diego, this is by Municipal Code §63.0102(b)(17):
Sports. It is unlawful to play any game of ball or engage in any sport except at such places and at such times as shall be designated for such purpose by the Park and Recreation Department.
One example of this is at the Mission Hills Tennis Courts at Pioneer Park. The sign says:
Grant Elementary has exclusive use of courts on school days and at other times as required for the intramural and competitive tennis programs.
Other rules are in the image below:
Search for Parks with Tennis Courts
If you’re looking for parks in San Diego with tennis courts, you’ve come to the right place! You can search our database and add criteria to find a park with restrooms, playgrounds or parking lots.
Example:
There are 62 parks in San Diego with tennis courts and bathrooms. I found this by searching for the tennis courts tag, and then selecting “Bathrooms” under amenities. You can refine the location even more by selection a location, or clicking the plus sign next to a location to show subcategories (Paradise Hills, Chula Vista, etc).
I don’t play tennis, so I don’t know much about it. I’m curious… what features do you look for when you search for a tennis court? Is there anything I can help you find? As an example, for basketball courts, you can search the database by half-court or full-court basketball courts, or just basketball courts (if you don’t have a preference). Please let me know in the comments!
