Rohr Park in Bonita is a huge park! It has lots of special features (equestrian track, feeding ducks, A TRAIN!) in addition to lots of reservable picnic areas, baseball/soccer fields, basketball courts, a walking/jogging trail and a few playgrounds!
Alcohol IS allowed at Rohr Park, but you cannot have kegs or glass (you should never bring glass to any park for safety reasons anyway).

Rohr Park is a great place for a party! Growing up in Paradise Hills, I went to many parties here 🙂
Rohr Park Playground
There are two playgrounds at Rohr Park, both pretty recently updated! The main attraction is the super fun “green” playground, near the train tracks.

The main playground is really big, and features spinners, climbing structures, a big slide, balance beams and a zipline! The ground covering is bark.
Check out this zipline – it’s really long and super fun!

This playground has four “saddle” swings. If you want bucket (baby) swings, you’ll have to go to the tot lot near the dog park (more information about this below). There isn’t much for littles at the big kid playground here, so if you have kids in different age groups, this park might be challenging for you!

Red & Yellow Playground at Rohr Park
Rohr Park’s other playground has a play structure for bigger kids (ages 5-12) and a tot lot (ages 2-5), a spring bouncer and some swings (2 saddle and 2 bucket (baby) swings). The ground covering is bark here too.

Restrooms
Rohr park has three bathroom buildings. The are all marked on the map at the bottom of this page. Each building has separate men’s/women’s with a couple of stalls. One bathroom building is near parking lot D (by the baseball fields), one bathroom building is by the train tracks and the other bathroom building is near the dog/park and red/yellow playground.

Live Steamers' Railroad
A unique feature of Rohr Park is the Live Steamer’s Railroad, located near the green playground by parking lots B & C. Operated by the Chula Vista Live Steamers, the train runs every second weekend of the month from 12-3 p.m. For more information, I recommend checking out their Instagram! Train rides are FREE (but donations are appreciated)! No food or drink allowed on the trains.

Adult Fitness Court {NEW 2022}
This adult fitness area is near the basketball courts. It has stations for sit-ups, pull-ups, step-ups, stretching and more! The city of Chula Vista was selected this year from hundreds of applicants nationwide for a $30,000 grant from the National Fitness Campaign, a nationwide consulting organization that partners with cities and schools to plan, build and fund healthy infrastructure. The remaining $150,000 for the Fitness Court was supported by Measure P tax funds.
Picnic Areas
Rohr Park is a great spot for a picnic! There are several picnic areas and gazebos all around the park. You can see them and reserve them here. A map of them all is located at the bottom of this post.
This (above) is R-1, located near the basketball court and parking lot C. It has 17 tables, one barbecue and is near a bathroom building.

I believe this is R-4 (or maybe R-5), located near the train tracks and green playground. It has two tables and a small barbecue. All the picnics areas are first-come, first-served (if not reserved). If they are reserved, you’ll probably see a notice on the gazebo (the orange paper in the picture above). The rates and all other information is on the city’s webpage here!
Dog Park at Rohr Park
The dog park at Rohr Park is one of the best! It opened in 2021 and has two areas: one for dogs 20 pounds and less, and one area for dogs 21 pounds and more. Each side is completely fenced, has benches and water for the dogs, and it’s own fun agility equipment!
This is for DOGS! It’s like a little play structure for your canine 🙂
Rohr Park History
According to the City of Chula Vista, Rohr Park was constructed on the flood plain of the Sweetwater River and was acquired through the generosity of Mr. Fred H. Rohr. This development has offered the City the opportunity to use an imaginative theme to blend the stately Rohr Manor Building, picnic areas, gazebos, and creative play areas with a model railroad truck installed by the Chula Vista Live Steamers, Inc., thus creating a spectacular park setting for the City of Chula Vista and the surrounding neighborhood area.
Rohr Manor is still on the park, located near the basketball courts.
Rohr Park is an incredible magical place. I grew up going to Rohr Park for school events, swimming (there used to be a pool on the lawn in front of Rohr Manor), and hanging out with friends. Fast forward 53 years and I now use it for exercise for myself and my pup Louis. It is a family park, a dog park, an athletic park all rolled into one. On any given day there are birthday parties, memorial services, gender reveal events and every type of celebration you can imagine. Kids play soccer, adults play softball and volleyball, and people fly drones and kites and operate their race cars on the dirt mounds provided. It’s an amazing place and it is used by the community to the fullest. I grew up taking it for granted, and now I’m in awe for all it provides and its beauty. Thank you Fred H. Rohr.
